Get A Written Quote Before Hiring Plumbers
So many people will hire plumbers without getting a written price quote. Maybe it is because they don’t know any better or because they forgot to get one. However, it is extremely important to make sure that you are never hiring a contractor or worker of any kind unless you have a written agreement on not only the price of the job but the time that it will take to complete it as well.
Make sure that you are not worried about feeling awkward for asking for a written price quote. You are the one in charge here. They are basically interviewing with you for a job. Since you are the one who calls the shots, you have every right to ask that they give a written quote. Be prepared for plumbers who will try to weasel their way out of providing one to you.
They will come up with one excuse after another but you have to make sure that you are holding strong. They might tell you that plumbing is such a complex job that there is no way to give an exact estimate of what they would have to charge you. This is wrong and a complete lie. If someone is trying to pull one over on you, you can rest assured that they will charge you way too much money without any kind of guilt or remorse.
If someone is not able or willing to give you a written price and time quote, then tell them that you will simply have to consult with another company. At that point, the company may be willing to offer you a price quote in writing in order to secure the job but you should still refuse. They already showed their true colors and there are plenty of other plumbing companies out there, waiting for work to come around. Not all of them are going to try to pull one over on you.
Do make sure that you are holding the plumbers accountable for the written quote. If something really major does go wrong and it was unforeseen, then allow the plumbing company to explain it to you and ask for permission before proceeding with the work. A new written price quote will need to be drafted. These things happen, even though they are fairly rare because the main problem should be able to be seen before any work has begun. This is not always the case, but it usually is.
So when you are looking for plumbers to hire, make sure that you are keeping all of this in mind. The more you prepare, the better deal you will get. You are already going through enough with the breakdowns in your house, you do not want to find yourself ripped off by some company that is simply out there to make a quick buck at the expense of everyone in their path.
