Matt Damon Does a Good Deed by Sharing His Blessings to the Needy
Renowned actor, Matt Damon, went to India last August 23 to 26 not to promote his recent film Elysium but to help the needy have easy access to potable water. Because he finds it challenging to make every person care enough about how precious water is, he took matters into his own hands and went to India to see to it that tube wells, toilets, hand pumps, and proper plumbing facilities were built.
Matt Damon is the cofounder of Water.org which is a nonprofit organization in partnership with several microfinance companies to provide people loans to afford proper toilets and clean water. The organization, which has aided India for five years now, has already helped half a million people in 11 different Indian states.
Together with co-founder and engineer, Gary White, the group plans on increasing their goal to 800,000 people by 2016. Both Mr. White and Matt Damon personally visited villages and urban slums in Bangalore to talk to children and women about the project and how they can be of help.
