Tips to Avoid Holiday Plumbing Problems
As always, towards the year’s end and the opening of another, we are all busy shopping, wrapping up gifts, partying with our family and friends and savoring the holidays. Because of all the festivities, we often fail to notice the toll all the celebrating may bring. For instance, house parties can put pressure on your plumbing. Large amounts of grease, excess peels, and numerous leftovers that go along with lots of cooking for the holidays can clog drains and damage disposals.
To avoid these plumbing problems while at the same time being able to enjoy the holiday feasts, here are some tips:
- Dispose of oil properly. Don’t pour cooking oil and grease down the drain. Strain the oil while pouring it into a container and throw it properly in your garbage can.
- Throw away leftovers properly. Dispose them in the trash, instead of the disposal to avoid clogs or damages.
- Let the water flow. Run the water from your kitchen sink a few seconds before using your disposal and then again after using the disposal to flush the line.
