Experts Believe Squat Toilets Are Better than Seated Ones
Squat toilets, used in many parts of Asia, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, are said to be better for defecation than seated toilets.
According to a medical textbook, “Gastroenterology”, the ideal position for defecation is squatting. This is done with the thighs flexed upon the abdomen. And through this, the abdominal cavity’s capacity is reduced while increasing intra-abdominal pressure to encourage expulsion.
Experts added that squatting releases more pressure on the rectum to make it easier to release feces. On a seated toilet, where the sitting position is usually used for defecation, people are only pushing against their own muscles. The seated position actually increases the chance of hemorrhoids, bowel cancer, and constipation.
Daniel Lametti, a neuroscientist, revealed that people who use the squat position while releasing body waste are have a higher chance of not getting constipation. This is due to the fact that squatting, in general, puts less strain on the anus; that of which can lead to hemorrhoids.
